About the event
Wag the Dog is a razor-sharp, deeply-dark comedy. When a presidential sex scandal threatens an election, a spin doctor (Robert De Niro), Whitehouse aide (Anne Heche) and a Hollywood producer (Dustin Hoffman) quite literally script a war to change the narrative — complete with soundtrack (Willie Nelson), slogans, and a hero the public can believe in. What follows is a darkly funny masterclass in media manipulation, where truth is optional and storytelling is everything.
Filmed in 30 days, De Niro and Hoffman weren't paid upfront for the film which was released just before the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal broke. Now, landing in an age of AI, deepfakes, entirely fabricated wars and algorithm-driven outrage - its central question is disturbingly unsettling: if you can control the story, does reality even matter?
